How-to-reach İzmit/ Kocaeli University

There are two international airports serving Istanbul and Kocaeli Area. If you have an option please prefer Sabiha Gokcen airport as this is quite close to İzmit.

Info below is based on public transportation, If you are coming to İzmit as a group, you might prefer to use private airport transfer. There are a number of firms you can contact to, one of which is given at this link.

From Sabiha Gokçen Airport

You can take Hat 250 bus operated by Ulaşımpark of Kocaeli Greater municipality . The bus departs in Sabiha Gokcen Airport from arrival floor at the exit . The bus service operates at 30-minute intervals. The journey takes about 45 minutes. Final station in İzmit is intercity bus terminal platform 44 or 45, .

Fom Istanbul Airport
You can take a bus (Istanbul Seyahat) from Istanbul airport direct to İzmit which takes about 1 h 46 minutes. Please link to obilet for reservation and further details .

Alternatifly you can take Havaist bus from Istanbul Airport to Sabiha Gokcen Airport and continue your journey with Hat 250 to İzmit ( see above) . It is also possible to take metro from the airport and switch to Marmaray subarban line . You may then either proceed to Sabiha Gokcen airport and take Hat 250 bus . Or continue your journey on Marmaray to Gebze and then take Hat 435 bus operated by Ulaşımpark to İzmit.

The symposium will take place in Kocaeli Congress Center, close to the city center at the edge of Seka Park overlooking the İzmit bay

From İzmit to/fro Umuttepe Campus

If you are attending the summer school, you need to get to Kocaeli University, Umuttepe Campus. The school will take place in the Department of Chemical Engineering . We will provide transportation as shown in the map below. Our tentative plan is that the bus will depart at Emex Hotel at 8:30 and will follow the route via Wes Hotel, İzmit Train Station, Orduevi and finally Kocaeli University Umuttepe Campus, Chemical Engineering Department . Those who would like to commute from İstanbul or from Sakarya may prefer to take the bus at either Izmit train station or at Orduevi. Exact timing for the bus stops will be reported in late August.

Kocaeli University Umuttepe Campus is served by buses operated by Kocaeli Municipality as well as by Dolmuş services from İzmit. Buses 10, 13, 14, 24, 33, 70, 85, 115, 115Ç, 170, 175, 190, 255, 265, 300, 305, 435, 530, 600, 630, 635, 640, 645, 650, 750, 755  operate to Umuttepe campus.
